National Survey Finds Job Seekers More Confident & Resourceful in 2015; Healthcare Industry Booming

King of Prussia, PA – January 8, 2015Beyond, a career network focused on helping people grow and succeed professionally, today announced that its national survey of 4,000 job seekers showed optimism has risen among those looking for work. Of those surveyed in December 2013, only 39% said they felt that it would be “easier to find a job next year” – but at the end of 2014, that number jumped to 47%. This overall boost in confidence may signal a resurgence of new job applications and worker mobility in the year ahead…and a likely increase in competition.

According to the most recent economic data, that competition may be least fierce in the healthcare industry, where thousands of job opportunities are still available. Between 2013 and 2014, healthcare jobs posted to Beyond increased by 88%, reflective of the consistent hiring in the field reported each month of 2014 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). As huge amounts of Baby Boomers (age 50-68) continue to retire in greater numbers, many economic experts predict that the need for healthcare workers from younger generations (especially Millennials) will increase exponentially.

“It’s impossible to discount how important job seeker confidence is to the overall economy, and we can thank the healthcare industry for giving us a nice shot in the arm heading into 2015,” said Rich Milgram, CEO of Beyond. “We’re witnessing a healthcare boom – with more jobs available, in more places, than any other industry in the country. For those frustrated with their current job search or debating a career change, this is a pretty clear message.”

So what positions within the healthcare industry are the hottest? Based on available jobs posted on Beyond, employers are hiring to staff the following titles (in order of popularity):

  1. Registered Nurse
  2. Physical Therapist
  3. Occupational Therapist
  4. Medical Assistant
  5. Pharmacist

Also uncovered in the Beyond survey was information about how people will be searching for work in 2015, revealing that the unemployed are 22% more likely to use social media to find a job than those currently employed and looking for work.

“If the past seven years has shown us anything, it’s that modern job seekers are among the most resilient people on the planet,” continued Milgram. “It’s natural that people would use social media to crowdsource trusted friends, but it’s also indicative of a larger trend in personalizing the job search experience to suit your specific industry or tastes.”
